Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Syaam Lebanese Restaurant is one of my favorite places in Surabaya! The space is incredibly spacious and comfortable — perfect whether you’re coming with family, friends, or colleagues. The menu is excellent, with a wide variety of authentic Lebanese dishes. I’ve attached a few of my personal must-try items, and I highly recommend giving them a go. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and attentive. I visit regularly and have always had a great experience. If you’re a traveler or expat visiting Surabaya for work or leisure, this is absolutely a must-try restaurant. It’s a taste of the Middle East right in the heart of the city."
"Not too bad by Surabaya standards, especially considering this is one of the only restaurants serving food within the Mediterranean or Arab realm. The bread with hummus was great, but unfortunately the same cannot be said for the lacklustre mains and dessert. The main dish itself was quite mediocre. I did not really appreciate the use of tortilla instead of fresh bread, along with the inclusion of fried elements that felt unnecessary. That said, the meat itself was actually good. The staff also said that I could have actually requested the Lebanese bread instead of the tortilla, which I will most likely give a try next game and update my review according* But what disappointed me the most during lunch, however, was the Umm Ali dessert. This is a dessert I have had countless times before and has recently become a favourite of mine at other places. What I was looking forward to the most turned out to be the biggest disappointment of the afternoon. Instead of serving what Umm Ali is supposed to be, a bread pudding, I was given what was essentially a disastrous, overly sweet milky abomination. Even after sending it back three times, each time supposedly cooked more, it remained as soupy as ever. It was nothing like the versions I have had elsewhere, such as in Jakarta. Overall, I was relatively disappointed since my expectations were sky high, but I will be back to try again and update accordingly if needed."
"This was my first experience eating Lebanese dish, it was nice. The taste and spice might be less punchy than what I expected, but it was still nice. As you can probably guess, Syaam is slightly more high end compare to other restaurants in the area, hence the decor was 'luxurious' rather than 'homey'. The staff were tentative and super nice, answer all of our questions regarding the menu. They also gave free soup if I remember correctly. Definitely recommended and will come back."
"Best authentic Middle East cuisine in town by far. This restaurant offers a delightful array of Middle Eastern cuisine from Syam (Syria, Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon). The flavors are authentic and well-balanced—rich in spices yet tasted light. Every ingredient is thoughtfully seasoned. The dishes are delicious and the drinks are enjoyable. Love their hot 'Ahmad Tea' in pot. The ambiance is comfortable, clean, and spacious with a peaceful atmosphere enhanced by the soft recitation of Qur'anic verses (murrotal) playing in the background. There is also a musholla available for guests, making it ideal for Muslim visitors. The service is excellent—orders are served quickly, and the staffs are friendly and well trained. It's a nice spot for families, friends, or solo if you're looking for comfy dining paired with authentic flavorful Syam dishes. Highly recommended!"
"Came with no expectations but blown away. Food was great, service was even better! Can’t wait to try other menus. Mix appetisers and syaam special rice were delicious."
"All the menus tasted great! I came during weekend lunch but they served really quick. As an Indonesian who loves Middle Eastern food, the flavor really hit the spot, rich in spices but not too much, just perfect. The service was nice too. Keep up the good taste! P.S. The Muqalqal Shrimp turned out really good"
"Syaam Lebanese is a welcoming Middle Eastern restaurant right in Surabaya, featuring a charming and unique theme. It offers plenty of parking and a great location, making it easy to visit. The building proudly displays its halal certificate and is equipped with cozy amenities for a pleasant experience. There's a spacious, air-conditioned prayer room with separate spaces for men and women, adding to the comfort. The dishes here delight with vibrant flavors and beautiful presentation, all thoughtfully tailored to suit the local taste of Surabaya. It’s a wonderful choice for family gatherings or office iftars, making everyone feel at home."
"A true taste of Lebanon! From the flavorful appetizers like hummus and falafel to the hearty main courses and tasty snacks, every dish is delicious. The refreshing detox drinks perfectly complete the meal, making the whole dining experience both satisfying and memorable."
